"Presentation coaching” is a pretty big umbrella that covers much of the work that we do here at Samson Speaking. Typically, though, when we talk about presentation coaching we’re referring to traditional presentations intended to be delivered in front of a group of people, usually with some sort of visual aids (often slides). Online video content creation is also very similar, and we look at online video creation as a different type of presentation, rather than a completely different thing.
Our presentation coaching is usually done one-on-one or with a small team of presenters. It’s usually done remotely, but can be done on-site with local clients. The presentation coaching process typically consists of these four steps:
1. Early discussion to create the core vision and framework
2. Further discussion to add appropriate and effective content
3. Creation and review of slides and other visuals
4. Rehearsal and polish to prepare for delivery
Sessions can be either 30 or 60 minutes in length, and the number of sessions can vary widely depending on the clients presentation experience, where they are starting from on their presentation, and how much polishing they want to do.
Public speaking coaching begins with the content, just as in presentation coaching. As you can imagine, there is a lot of crossover between presentation coaching and public speaking coaching. The main difference is that since speeches don’t have visuals, the focus of the work is on crafting the language, imagery, and rhythm of the text of the speech, on memorization and polishing the delivery, and on creating and maintaining a strong connection with the audience.
If you are communicating with your audience via the written word, then we can remove the memorization, rehearsal and delivery aspects of public speaking coaching, and instead focus on the core concepts of crafting a message and communicating that in a way that your intended audience will want to read, and will understand, remember and act on.
We love teaching people how to do the things we’ve been doing for so long that they come naturally to us. However, we understand that sometimes you simply don’t have the time (or inclination) to increase your own skills, you just need something done quickly and professionally.
If you need an article or speech written, or you need to add a seasoned professional quickly and temporarily to your writing or instructional design staff for a particular project or event, we’re happy to pitch in and help you get the job done.
