Make a lasting impression
A wise man once said that the only reason to give a speech is to change the world. That may seem like a lofty goal for a business update presentation given at a quarterly budget meeting, but we disagree. We think that the part that gets adjusted based on a less-than-inspiring setting isn’t the goal itself, but the scope of the goal. Maybe you’re only trying to make a small change to a very small part of the world, but they key is that you’re trying to change something– you’re trying to change someone’s mind, or their perception of something, or you’re trying to inspire them to do something new, or do something differently because of your presentation. And for that to happen, you need to make a lasting impact on them– at least long enough for that change to happen.
